· Silk, Used for the manufacture of lighter and more refined rugs.
· Cotton, used as a base material in warp threads. Although its manufacture differs from that of fabrics, as it is based on making knots.
On the other hand, at alp_ we work to guarantee that the processes used in each phase of production are respectful with environtment. That´s because our objective is to offer products made of natural fabrics such as wool, cotton, linen and silk and to ensure that the rug causes as little environmental damage as possible during the manufacture phase and subsequently.
Origin and structure of handmade rugs
For the elaboration of hand-made carpets, the knot technique is usually used, a natural element of the Islamic field, which was used to decorate the rooms of the houses and to create warmer and more comfortable environments. Likewise, since their origin they have been used as thermal insulators for the cold in winter, helping to keep the rooms warmer and also as a sound insulator, cushioning the footsteps and reducing the noise level of the rooms. In addition, they adorned and decorated the interior of the houses, showing an elegant and refined image.
On the other hand, the structure of a carpet is made up of a mesh in which vertical threads (warp) and horizontal threads (weft) intersect. To make rugs, knots are tied on the warp threads, securing them through the weft threads. Our artisans make each of these knots one by one and cut them at the end to generate the pile of the carpet.
